I have a question on the collection sets.
Can you change an existing collection into a collection set with sub folders?

A photo can be a concurrent member of multiple collections/sets. You can create your new hierarchy of collection set(s), and constituent collections/sets, then select and drag photos at will from the original collection to anywhere in that hierarchy to populate it. This doesn’t depopulate your original collection in anyway.

here is a tip I ned. When I start Lightroom and I don’t and I am not on the Internet (say in a hotel), Lightroom errors out. I checked and I am not “signed in”. It looks like it expects the Internet but can’t find it. If I establish a connection to the internet all is fine but I don’t always want to pay for Internet. LR 5.7.1, Yosemite, What am I doing wrong? thanks

May be something you want to highlight to your viewers?
If I want a 2nd version of a photograph, I usually make a virtual copy. But after I did that, I want to return a couple of steps in history and continue from there but that’s seems not possible and I don’t want to lose something from my original. Do I have to make a hard copy from my image or is there another way? It usually is to have a color and BW version…

Create snapshots as you progress through your 1st, create and activate a VC and then click on the snapshot where you wanted to depart the original progressin in your new work ? Give it a try and see if that’s what you’re looking for.
it seems to me that eventually you’re going to have a ton of collections you don’t need to be “active” but still would want to keep – like the Smith Wedding after you’ve finished the books. Is there some way to hide certain collections so you don’t see them in the list in the left-hand panel, but can retrieve them?
Some ideas: Create a Collection Set called “Completed” and move those underfoot into it, then collapse it. (maybe an issue with LR mobile or otherwise). Normally, you can collapse a Collection Set and just see its name but not its constituent collections. An alternative could be to simply name those you’re working on to start with “0” and they’ll show up at the top of the list, then rename that leading zero when they’re no longer “active” to you. (Sort by name – is under the plus sign on the Collection header).

Hi! Very nice show, im watching the episodes in itunes. First it was in HD but not anymore, is there a reason for it?

I enjoy these shows and usually find a tidbit of new info.
I personally prefer not use the “+” icon when creating new Collections or Collection Sets unless the new entry will be a top level entry. Instead, I right-click on the intended parent Set and choose from the menu. This causes Lr to preload the parent dropdown with the Set you chose for the right-click action. This saves a few clicks and avoids the occasional forgetting to select the appropriate parent.
The Collections tip you did Scott… Thats was at least 1000 times easier in Aperture…
Also I never got to respond to a statement you made about running LR or Aperture over a network.
Aperture works perfectly fine on a network. I store the Aperture library’s on a NAS and no matter
what computer I open it on all the edits and everything else is right there…
Love what you guys do and thanks for helping to make the switch to LR a little easier…
The presets install and the zoom tips were great, always went through the preferences before to install the presets. So, question: is there anyway to navigate through the presets with the keyboard. Frustrating to have to keep clicking one at a time.

At least on Windows, a keyboard macro tool exists called lightroom preset jumper. Can’t vouch for it’s safety, author, conflicts etc, but does what you want – you can disable it as well on/off on demand. Find it on the web, scan for viruses etc… But there’s nothing inside LR itself to do what you want… I use the navigator window and mouse over the presets to get an idea of the look each would impart. Maybe helpful to someone…
Please do a tip on how to load plug-ins into Lightroom. What folder do they go into?

Another way to install pre-sets is to simply drag them on the lightroom icon.
Open the folder you downloaded them into. Grab it, drag it over the lightroom icon and let go!
Lightroom will launch and ask you if you want to install.
Simple as that

Regarding presets, there is a group for video file presets, but I can’t seem to apply presets to video. If it’s not possible, why are there video presets that ship with Lightroom?

Try applying them via the Quick Develop panel in Library.

Another great show, Scott & RC. Scott, about your collection organization set up. Having recently migrated from Aperture, I was able to set up a project-subalbums template that I could simply duplicate and drag into a primary level album prior to import. I essentially was similar to your smart collections>sub smart collections<collections. I really don't see a way that Adobe can do that, is there? If not, Adobe should think about creating a way to do that. Suggestion for future episodes: how about showing us how to create various export presets for say certain sized pictures (like mix may want certain pixel x pixel parameters) BTW, I found Moose scat on my computer by watching Moose's Africa adventure on kelbyone. Very enjoyable and educational. Thanks
