Auto Straighten Comes to Lightroom Mobile
This is another feature that was added “While you were sleeping” (one of my wife’s favorite movies — it’s better than you’d think), but it’s pretty awesome to see so many features from the desktop version of Lightroom keep making their way over to Lightroom mobile. 🙂
STEP ONE: When you find an image that needs straightening, tap the Crop icon to enter this view.
STEP TWO: The third tile is now Auto Straighten — just tap on it, then tap on the checkmark in the bottom right corner.
STEP THREE: Boom. Done.
Hope you found that helpful, and here’s wishing you a better than average Tuesday!
Best,
-Scott
P.S. Next week I’m in Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale with my seminar. Ya’ll come out. 🙂
LR should have a keyboard shortcut or single click menu command which automatically straightens all selected photos, with no intervention required. It can keep the ratio as is. It’s a time drain to have to walk through hundreds of photos for this function. I can undo the few which need adjustments to imperfections. Can you get that done for us Scott ?
I love this post about light room. Am new to this field but will soon find an awesome camera to kick start well.
Hi Scott,
First…thanks for these and the numerous ways you keep us all well informed and productive.
I’d like to put a pitch out there…perhaps the next time you’re chatting with our friends at Adobe…who I also compliment for constantly innovating and improving their products…that I would ask that they consider.
I know it is old fashioned…but I think it can be brought up to speed with today…
It’s called a “Manual”. Gone are the days when a user’s manual came with software…I get that. But not having good documentation that keeps up with the iterative changes and improvements that are coming all the time, means we are all going through discovery learning, relying on you and your team to discover them too…and chasing multiple venues to ‘come across things’ whether it be YouTube, Kelby One, Google News feeds, etc. Or, even worse…not knowing what is there and missing out on great opportunities!
What would be nice is a online Manual that we can download…or at least reference…that at leaves gives us the basics of all the features. And…if changes are made, simply also publish a “new version” of the manual…with the first section always being “What’s New!”. We’ll still continue to await your latest book that goes beyond the basics and that gets into the “how” to use the features to best advantage…but having a basic features manual that stays up to date would be really, really nice.
Thanks!!
Randy
In LR – “Help” “Lightroom Help” – will take you to a webpage with links to all the topics and one is “What’s new”. On the left side of the main help landing page is a link to download a PDF of what would be in a printed manual.
Thanks”
I would like to know if there is a way to adjust the Whites and Blacks on LR mobile like it can be done in the desktop version when pressing Option (PC: Alt) key and moving the Whites and Blacks slider?
Yes, it can bel done. Just use a two-finger touch on the slider button, and slide away.
I just found it! Thanks a lot!! 🙂 But the graduated filter is really not yet in LR mobile, right?

“While You Were Sleeping” is one of my favorite movies too. It is our “holiday” movie – we watch it every year around Xmas/holiday time.

I love Lightroom Mobile – but find it really frustrating that some features make it in – and other seems to be forgotten. This is my top 4 of features that I would really like to see added:
– Synchronize smart collections. That would be so cool to have an online gallery of all 5-star-images or all images taken in a certain location
– Make virtual copies. It is nice that you can now work with virtual copies in LR Mobile, but all the more strange that you cant make new virtual copies.
– Noise reduction. Why not?
– Local adjustments. With a tool like the iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil it would be really nice to work with the brush and the spot removal tool. Actually it would be easier to do on the iPad than it is on the desktop. Its a touch interface …. let me touch it!
But nice to see that new features are creeping in. And LR Mobile is a really really useful tool. It has become my go-to solution for making make-shift galleries for clients where they can view the images that I have picked.
