Renaming Your Photos With Names That Make Sense

Photoshop World Q&A today!

Gee… since Lightroom is a killer database… the name of the image makes no difference…all my images get renamed on import to my initials plus the date and time taken…
Really, you only need names that make sense if you insist on sorting and managing your images the old fashioned way, in a shoebox.
Spend the time to properly tag each image with an abundance of keywords, preferably hierarchical keywords and let the computer do your sorting and filing for you – heres a tip… it excels at that!
Just can never understand why people feel the need to go backwards in time and try to negate one of the most powerful features of Lightroom!
I can never understand why some people think that there is only one right way to do things, but so it goes.

Everyone should have some kind of naming convention for their photos. Lightroom is great but it doesn’t hurt to name your photos something sensible. Also by default the file name is used on export so files you share with clients will have a reasonable name.
For me it’s subject location date my initials.CR2, e.g. “Church Winnipeg 20180318 SLB”
Good tip! I knew the “how”, but didn’t see the “why” until now. It makes a lot of sense.
