Finding and Updating Images in Lightroom

Yesterday on The Grid, Scott and I started talking about Keywording and finding images inside of your Lightroom catalog. I talked about how I use the metadata filters in Lightroom to find the images I need, as well as a way to update the folder locations of images should you need to move to another drive or device.

Figured this would make a good video to share with you today. Enjoy!

…which brings up a question I’ve often wondered, RC. I rarely use camera or label when filtering, but I nearly always use keywords. But I have to manually choose keywords every time! How do I make keywords show up as one of these 4 metadata categories by default so I don’t have to take the extra step every time?

Colin – if you hover (I’m on windows) on the column header name you can choose about anything you want. Then go to the upper right corner where you see the lock ? Click on the word left of the lock, and in there you can save the current setup as Default Columns. Click so the lock is closed and they’ll come up that way all the time when you enter LR.

Thanks, Lyle! I had always assumed that choosing that option would change back to LR’s defaults rather than saving mine. It would be nice if the LR docs had this in a findable place. 🙂
